Project content

This project will use various X-ray-based analytical techniques for the localisation and chemical speciation of intravenously injected metal-based imaging probes in tissues with pathologically altered extracellular matrix (ECM). These are laboratory X-ray microscopy with 3D localisation, correlative fluorescence microscopy to link structural information with functional data of the corresponding tissue region, and spectroscopic X-ray scanning techniques at the synchrotron as well as detection of chemical states of iron oxide nanoparticles with sub-µm resolution. The instrument development represents a main point for the establishment of an adapted analytical workflow within the SFB to analyse the interaction of the imaging probes with components of the ECM.
